On May 6, 2002 Mike & Dani Utley visited CoolSport at their sunny, Southern California office in Torrance, to prepare for CoolSport's sponsorship of Mike. Due to Mike's spinal cord injury, he is unable to sweat in hot weather and during strenuous exercise. Since the ability to sweat is the body's natural defense against heat stress, Mike needs to cool himself by other means. This is why Mike approached CoolSport.

CoolSport manufactures personal cooling vests that are designed to prevent heat stress and maintain the body's core temperature in warm or hot environments. These innovative garments protect wearers without any restrictions in body movement and without sacrificing personal comfort. CoolSport's products are widely used in the medical, sports and commercial industries for the prevention of (and relief from) heat stress.

Mike Utley will be using CoolSport's products for various athletic events, where heat stress would otherwise be a limiting, if not dangerous, factor. Mike's cooling vests of choice are CoolSport's Cool Vest Classic™, and Cool Vest Lite™ models. During Mike & Dani's visit, they met with CoolSport's staff, including CoolSport's CEO Ron Planovsky, Administrative Vice President Angeles Nanstiel, and Norman Nanstiel, CoolSport's Director of Marketing. CoolSport instructed Mike in the proper care, use and applications of his new cooling vests.
